Just when it seemed like the Huskies were starting to stabilize their roster, Washington lost another starter Tuesday.
Jaden Green, Washington’s starting long snapper, announced he will forgo his final year of eligibility and turn professional, according to a post on his Instagram account.
“I’d like to start off by saying I love the city of Seattle and all the amazing experiences and memories it has given me,” he wrote Tuesday. “And to every coach, I am forever grateful. After careful consideration and talks with my family and coaches, I have decided to declare for the NFL draft.
“Thank you to all and I am excited to see what the future holds for me and my talents.”
Green — a 5-foot-11-inch, 214-pound long snapper from Gilbert, Ariz. — arrived at Washington before the 2020 season, already in possession of a scholarship. He played in four games as a true freshman, then appeared in all 12 games in 2021, handling all long-snapping duties while making a career-high seven tackles.
He continued to be the team’s primary long snapper in 2022 and 2023, and also became a weapon on special teams. He racked up 10 career tackles, and caught a two-point conversion from quarterback Dylan Morris in Washington’s 43-10 win against Tulsa on Sept. 9.
Sophomore Caleb Johnson, a 5-foot-11-inch, 219-pound walk-on from Ripon, Calif., is the only long snapper listed on Washington’s 2024 roster. He arrived on Montlake before the 2022 season but has not played in either of his first two years. He was a long snapper, running back and middle linebacker at Ripon High School.
The Huskies also return punter Jack McCallister and kicker Grady Gross next season, making Green the most notable special teamer departing.
